Most families are surprised by what they qualify for. Here’s how it works in Maryland — and we’ll help you figure out where you fit, whether or not you end up working with us.
If you're enrolled in Maryland Medicaid, in-home personal assistance may be covered, typically at no cost to the participant, through Community First Choice (CFC) or Community Personal Assistance Services (CPAS). Approved hours are set by the State. Family members may be eligible to be paid caregivers.
For families who want care now, more hours than a program allows, or scheduling flexibility that isn't tied to an approval process. Care can begin without waiting on eligibility, and all rates are disclosed in a written agreement.
Long-term care insurance, veterans' benefits and Aid & Attendance, workers' compensation and auto injury claims, and trust or estate funds can often be applied toward in-home support. We'll help you gather whatever documentation an insurer needs from us.
Everyone we serve receives the same caregivers, the same standards, and the same respect regardless of how care is funded. Living Essence does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, or source of payment.
Private care is quoted after a no-cost in-home consultation, because the honest answer depends on hours, schedule, and the kind of help needed. What we can tell you up front:
Eligibility is determined by the State, usually starting with Maryland Access Point (MAP) or a Supports Planning agency in your county. Call us and we'll walk you through who to contact and what documents to gather. There's no charge for this and no obligation to use our agency.
In many cases, yes. Maryland's community programs allow certain family members to be hired as paid personal assistants, with some restrictions on who qualifies. If you already have someone in mind, tell us during the first call.
Private-pay care can often begin within a few days of the in-home consultation. Medicaid-funded care depends on the State's approval timeline, which we can't control — but we'll keep you updated at every step.
Our caregivers are our own employees — not contractors, and not a referral list. Every one is background-checked, screened against federal exclusion databases, health-screened as Maryland requires, and CPR certified before entering a home.
Because they work for us, we carry the insurance and workers' compensation. You are never responsible for payroll, taxes, or liability.
Schedules can be adjusted as needs change — that's normal. Our service agreement explains the notice period for changes and for ending services, and there is no long-term contract.
No. Living Essence provides non-medical support only. If a medical need arises, we'll notify the family and help coordinate with the appropriate provider.
Prince George's, Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery, and Charles counties. If you're just outside that footprint, call anyway — we'll tell you honestly whether we can staff it.
